car seat, it's important to know the rules and regulations.
Infants must be in a
rear facing car seat or
rear facing convertible car seat, while toddlers must be in
forward facing car seat. In terms of saftey features, the 5-point Harness is the safest harness type on the market. There are 5 straps: 2 at the shoulders, 2 at the hips, and 1 at the crotch. Most car seats come equipped with a built-in locking Clips.
Infant Car Seats –
Infant car seats are rear-facing and can be used as carriers.
Infant car seats can accommodate babies up to 20-22 pounds (depending on model), are small, portable, and come equipped with either a 5-point harness. Many
infant car seats have a detachable base which attaches to the car, allowing you to carry your baby in and out of the car without installing the
car seat each time.
Convertible Car Seats –
Convertible car seats can be used in both
forward facing and
rear facing positions.
Convertible Car Seats are not portable and cannot be used as a carrier.
Convertible car seats are used in the rear-facing position for infants up to 20 lbs, and forward-facing for toddlers who are 1 year of age and weigh at least 20 lbs.
Booster Car Seats - Children who have outgrown
car seats should be in a
Booster car seats until they are at least 8 years old, or are 4’9” or taller.
Booster car seats are to be used only for toddlers in a forward facing position and can accommodate children up to 80 lbs. A
booster car seat can have its own harness, or can use the car seat belt.
